How to Refer

We appreciate you taking the time to explore ways the Dean of Students team can support you or someone you care about. Please click on the button below to fill out the Student of Concern Report. When completing the referral please include as much detail as possible when answering the questions asked. A member of our team might reach out to you if there is additional information needed.

When to Refer

It can be difficult to determine when help is needed. Here are some general guidelines for when a referral to CARE may be needed.

  • If your efforts to manage a significant behavioral issue have not resolved the issue.
  • If the behavior is unusual or abnormal from what you know of the person.
  • If you are concerned about the welfare of an individual, yourself, or others.
  • If the individual’s behavior is starting to impact others’ ability to live and learn on campus.
  • If you have referred an individual to CARE in the past and there seems to be no improvement or behavior seems to be worsening.

Referrals can be made for any GS student. Each report is handled as sensitively and confidentially as possible. Only those who need to assist in helping will be made aware of details as needed. If you are unsure if you should report, please contact the Dean of Students Office at 912-478-3326 or deanofstudents@georgiasouthern.edu for the Statesboro campus or 912-344-2514 or armdeanofstudents@georgiasouthern.edu for the Armstrong and Liberty campuses.

Resources

For more information about how the Behavior Assessment Team functions, the assessment process, the classification of common student behaviors, risk levels, and common interventions the team recommends to students, as well as additional contacts and resources please contact the Dean of Students Office.

What to Expect

Upon receipt of a referral, the Dean of Students Staff will review the information you provided, gather additional information to add in the assessment process and determine the best strategy for follow-up. Individuals who make a referral may be contacted. Depending on the circumstances, that individual may not receive specific information about how the CARE Team plans on responding to their referral.

Examples of responses may influence the following:

  • Staff may determine that there is no need for further action but will monitor the situation and concern.
  • Staff will circle back around to the referral source and provide suggestions and ways to respond to the concerning behavior. We encourage the reporter to let the student know they submitted this referral.
  • Staff may reach out to the individual of concern directly to provide support resources and targeted interventions.
